Welcome to Compass Motorcycle Excellence, founded and led by Seb Rees, an experienced motorcycle riding instructor, driver education / road safety trainer, mountain leader and navigation instructor based near Colchester on the Essex/Suffolk border.
Seb has been riding motorcycles since 1995 and has been a qualified Advanced Motorcycle Riding Instructor since 2018. With many years of experience helping people develop practical skills and confidence, Seb provides professional, personalised training designed to help individuals become safer, more knowledgeable and more capable road users.
Advanced Motorcycle Training
Seb is passionate about helping motorcyclists develop the knowledge, observation, planning and machine-control skills required for safer and more confident riding.
As a qualified RoSPA Advanced Motorcycle Rider Instructor and DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme Instructor, Seb provides motorcycle rider training for riders who want to develop beyond basic licence training. Courses can be tailored to the rider's existing experience, motorcycle and individual objectives including Back-to-Biking rider training, Post-CBT rider training and Slow Speed Machine Skills rider training.
Training can include advanced motorcycle riding, enhanced rider skills, road awareness, observation, hazard perception, cornering, overtaking, positioning, speed management and effective journey planning.
The aim is not simply to teach riders how to control a motorcycle, but to develop the thinking and decision-making skills that support safer riding and help riders #RideForLife.
Driver Education & Speed Awareness Training
Seb is also a National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) Trainer, delivering driver education and speed awareness training.
This experience provides another important dimension to Compass: helping road users understand the relationship between speed, observation, hazards, decision-making and road safety.
Mountain Leadership & Navigation
Seb's experience extends beyond the road. As a UK Mountain Leader (Summer), UK Walking Group Leader and NNAS National Navigation Award Scheme Course Director, he also has extensive experience delivering navigation, map-reading, walking and expedition skills.
His experience includes working with groups and individuals, helping people develop practical navigation and outdoor leadership skills. He has also worked as a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition Leader and Assessor.
Professional Skills & Experience
Seb holds a RoSPA Diploma in Advanced Motorcycle Rider Instruction, DVSA Enhanced Riding Scheme Instructor qualification and Level 3 Award in Education and Training. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management, alongside holding qualifications in first aid, mountain leadership, navigation and expedition leadership.
