Post-CBT Motorcycle Rider Training – Build Skills, Awareness and Confidence
Have you recently completed your CBT and started riding a 125cc motorcycle? Our Post-CBT Motorcycle Rider Training is designed to help new riders develop their practical riding skills, road awareness and confidence before progressing to Direct Access Scheme (DAS) motorcycle training.
Completing your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) provides the foundation for riding a motorcycle on the road. Following CBT, riders can ride a motorcycle up to 125cc and 11kW, subject to the conditions of their provisional licence. However, CBT is only the beginning of the learning journey.
Why Choose Post-CBT Motorcycle Training?
The period immediately after CBT is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable real-world riding experience on a manageable 125cc motorcycle.
Compass Motorcycle Excellence Post-CBT Training provides structured, individual rider development designed to help you become a more confident, observant and capable motorcycle rider.
Rather than immediately moving onto a larger motorcycle for DAS training, riders can use their 125cc motorcycle to develop the essential skills needed for safe and effective road riding.
Core Post-CBT Training Modules
1. Motorcycle Control and Riding Skills
Develop greater confidence and control of your 125cc motorcycle, including:
-
Moving off and stopping smoothly
-
Effective braking and controlled braking
-
Gear selection and clutch control
-
Slow-speed riding
-
U-turns and other low-speed manoeuvres
-
Steering and motorcycle stability
-
Correct use of controls and rider inputs
2. Road Awareness and Hazard Perception
Learn to identify potential hazards earlier and develop a more effective approach to hazard perception, anticipation and planning.
Training can include recognising developing hazards, assessing road and traffic conditions, understanding other road users and maintaining appropriate safety margins.
3. Observation and Road Positioning
Develop effective observation techniques and learn how your road position, speed and separation distance can improve visibility and create additional time and space.
Training can cover junctions, bends, roundabouts, overtaking, meeting oncoming traffic, filtering and riding in busy urban environments.
4. Developing Confidence
Confidence comes from developing skills and gaining appropriate experience — not simply from riding more miles.
Your instructor will provide constructive feedback and progressively introduce different roads, traffic conditions and riding situations appropriate to your experience and ability.
5. Preparing for DAS
Post-CBT training can provide a valuable stepping stone towards DAS motorcycle training. It allows you to consolidate your fundamental riding skills before progressing to a larger and more powerful motorcycle.
DAS training develops the knowledge and practical skills required for the motorcycle practical tests and ultimately riding independently after obtaining a full licence.
